3M Commercial Graphics introduces Scotchcal Gloss Overlaminate 8528. This new overlaminate is specifically designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, ultraviolet rays and acid dew common in Los Angeles and other west coast cities. In regions subject to intense heat, these conditions can lead to spotting and other discoloration in overlaminates.
“Our new overlaminate means longer-lasting graphics that stay vibrant, which helps make the most of our customers’ investment and can set them apart from the competition,” said Tim Boxeth, business manager for 3M Commercial Graphics. “The glossy finish gives that wet-paint look that customers are demanding.”
Scotchcal overlaminate 8528 offers customers peace of mind with the industry’s first published warranty for horizontal surfaces – two years for horizontal surfaces and up to seven years for vertical surfaces.
The 2-mil cast vinyl provides excellent conformability and dimensional stability. It is designed for use with solvent, latex and UV inks.
The 3M Graphics Market Center announces new brushed metal finishes for its Scotchprint Wrap Film Series 1080. The brushed metal finishes join matte and carbon fiber to deliver a wide selection of colors and finishes for a broad range of wrap applications.

The Scotchprint Wrap Film Series 1080 are long-term, removable cast films. They are designed for solid color vehicle detailing, decoration, and full wraps without the need for graphic protection. Their pressure-activated adhesive allows them to slide and be repositioned until firm pressure is applied. The non-visible air release channels assure fast, easy, and virtually bubble-free installations, the same great features found in 3M’s Controltac Graphic Films with Comply v3 Adhesive.a
Looking for more diversity with your vinyl material options? 3M Graphics Market Center just added both 30” and 60.5” widths to 3M Scotchcal Graphic Film with Comply Adhesive IJ35C-10 (Gloss) in 50-yard roll lengths. This should make it easier for some of you vinyl installers to get the job done.
Scotchcal film IJ35C is a 3.2 mil polymeric calendered film ideal for POP and general signage applications. According to 3M, it offers great hiding power, permanent adhesive and air release channels for virtually bubble-free graphic installations with less application waste. You can use this film with or without an overlaminate. When graphic protection is required, 3M recommends its Scotchcal Luster Overlaminate 8509.
3M is now offering its Scotchcal graphic film with Comply adhesive IJ40C for partial vehicle wraps. This 3-mil vinyl film has removable, pressure-sensitive adhesive, and a pattern of air release channels for easier, bubble-free application. And the product has been upgraded with a 7-year expected performance life.
It’s available in a gloss or matte finish and 3M is billing it as ideal where a versatile film is needed for partial vehicle wraps. It provides dependable performance for fleet, flat and simple POP applications where air release is desired. The film is designed for inkjet or screen printing with solvent or UV inks.
The Avery Dennison Graphics & Reflective Products Division just rolled out the MPI 1005 Supercast Series, a line of next generation conformable cast vinyl films.
Supercast films feature enhanced conformability and stay down over complex curves and rivets with no tenting or lifting – a new option that is ideal for vehicle wraps, fleet graphics and architectural applications.
